The East Carolina University Police Department reported it is investigating the death of a student in a residence hall that occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday.

No evidence suggested foul play, the department reported, although a cause of death was not released. The student’s name was withheld until his immediate family and close friends could be notified, a department news release said.

ECU officials have reported several student deaths on campus this year, including two possible suicides, an overdose, and a cardiac-related fatality during the first weeks of class. There also have been several suicide attempts, according to reports.

The ECU Counseling Center is available Monday-Friday with walk-in hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for any student seeking counseling services. For weekend and after-hours crisis support, please call 252-328-6661. Calls should press 2 if it’s after hours.
