Today

Blood donation center

The American Red Cross Donation Center, 700 Cromwell Drive, is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday. It also is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. Blood donors are needed. Farmers’ market

The Leroy James Pitt County Farmers’ Market, 4560 County Home Road, will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This week the Farmers Market is holding a school supply drive for students in need. The last day for collection will be Saturday. Food box distribution

Staton Mill Road Community Outreach will hold its monthly food box distribution from 5-7 p.m. at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 1251 Fleming School Road. Call Larry Chance at 327-8208.

Back-to-school events

  • St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church will give away book bags, school supplies and toiletry bags at Eppes Recreation Center, 400 Nash St., from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday while supplies last.   • Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 4284 West Avenue, Ayden, will host a Book Bag and School Supplies Give-A-Way from 10:30-noon Saturday. The event will include free pizza and activities for all. Call 746-4899 for more information.

Open house

The Sheppard Memorial Library and Literacy Volunteers of Pitt County will have an open house from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday in Meeting Room A of the library, 530 Evans St. At the event people can learn about all the new free programs and services available to the public. Participants will take part in learning activities and go on a tour of the library. Refreshments will be served. For more information call 353-6578.

Blood drive

The Alliance One Community blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday at the Administrative Operations Center, 8880 W. Marlboro Road in Farmville. To schedule an appointment, contact Mandy Revis at 753-8000.

Grant applications

Spring Fling 2020 applications to receive grants are available on the St. James United Methodist Church website, stjconnect.org, through Aug. 30. Eligible organizations are those that can document their status as a 501©(3) nonprofit group and those that provide one of the following: services to the sick, elderly, homeless, and other special population groups to improve the lives of women, men, and children; aid and assistance to religious institutions and spiritual causes; other worthy purposes that the Application Review Committee deems to be in keeping with the mission statement of St. James United Methodist Church. Next year’s Spring Fling will be held on April 25.

Alumni meeting

The Pitt County Alumni Chapter of North Carolina A&T State University will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St. Call 217-7476.
