Sheriff's office investigating homicide

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reports it is investigating a homicide in connection with a death in the Clarks Neck area of Pitt County.

Deputies were called about 8 p.m. Friday to home at 5641 Sandy Ridge Road, which is in the Rivercreek neighborhood off of Clarks Neck Road.

They found a man later identified as 33-year-old Felton L.Simmons Jr., according to a news release issued on Tuesday. Simmons was dead.

The news release did not disclose details about the death. It said only that detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The release said the department is withholding further details to maintain the integrity of the investigation or future criminal prosecutions.
