Retired school personnel

The North Carolina Retired School Personnel of Pitt County will meet at 10 a.m. at Parker's Barbecue, 3109 S. Memorial Drive, for a general meeting. Attendees are asked to bring school supplies for the community service project and a record of volunteer hours for 2018. Call 714-6027.

Blood donors needed

The American Red Cross will hold blood drives 11 a.m.-7 p.m. today at ECU’s Mendenhall Student Center on West 10th St. and 2-6 p.m. on Thursday at Gateway Residence Hall. The Donation Center, 700 Cromwell Drive, will be open from 6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Blood donors are needed. Walk-ins accepted; appointments recommended. Weekly bingo

American Legion Post 39, 403 St. Andrews Drive, holds bingo games each Wednesday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; games with prizes begin at 6:30 p.m. The big payoff is on the second Wednesday of the month. Proceeds benefit the military, veterans and families. Call 347-9638.

Fighting prejudice

A planning meeting to “Respond Effectively to Pittsburgh Shootings — Fight Prejudice and Celebrate Diversity” will be held at noon on Friday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 131 Oakmont Drive. The facilitator will be Rabbi Harley Karz-Wagman. Anyone may speak at the meeting. There will be a two-minute time limit. Speakers are encouraged to focus on local efforts that can be started now. Proposals for action are being sought. These plans would be implemented later. The meeting will conclude at 1 p.m. Call Rabbi Karz-Wagman at 830-1138 for more information.

Fishing derby

A Time for Science Nature and Science Learning Center, 949 Contentnea Lane, Grifton, will host its second annual fishing derby from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday. Particpants should bring their own fishing rods. There is no fishing license required for this catch-and-release tournament. Cost is $5 per participant. A hot dog lunch is included. Queen Anne’s Revenge

The Queen Anne’s Revenge Conservation Lab will offer free guided tours from the archaeologists and conservators responsible for conserving, documenting and investigating Blackbeard’s flagship from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the QAR Lab, 1157 VOA Site C Road. Tours will run every 30 minutes and will last approximately one and a half hours. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Turkey dinner giveaway

Freedom Baptist Church, 234 Snow Hill St., Ayden, will give away a turkey and the traditional fixin’s that make up a Thanksgiving dinner (six or seven non-perishable items) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday to the first 100 people who show up at the church. Author appearance

Best-selling author Sheila Turnage will discuss and sign copies of “The Law of Finders Keepers,” the latest book in her Mo & Dale Mystery series, at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Barnes & Noble, 3020 Evans St. The event is a fundraiser for Pitt County Schools with a percentage of sales going to benefit public school media centers. Tea Party Meeting

The Eastern North Carolina Tea Party will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday at The Mayflower Seafood Restaurant, 136 Davenport Farm Road, Winterville. The guest speaker will be Taylor Griffin, a friend of the Tea Party movement. Griffin will review the Russian collusion scandal and explain why Special Counsel Robert Mueller was appointed and what his investigation hopes to achieve.
