Support health care expansion

Good health is a requirement for all of us. When someone is sick, they can’t work, learn or be a fully engaged in the community.

Unfortunately, too many of our neighbors don’t have the health insurance they need to stay healthy. Approximately 6,577 people in Pitt County alone have no health insurance and cannot afford to see a doctor. Without access to care, treatable health conditions often become health crises.

This is why we need the General Assembly to pass the new Republican plan to expand health care access in North Carolina. Under this plan half a million people would gain access to affordable health insurance, including thousands in our county.

Those of us who already have insurance need this plan too. Helping people get insurance coverage will improve the health of our workforce, shore up our hospitals, and put downward pressure on premiums. That’s a win for everyone.

I hope the General Assembly can find a way to work together to pass this plan — this year.

Donald Trump visited Greenville again recently. He must like it a lot ... he certainly gets a warm reception from the rally participants.

I like North Carolina a lot, too, and used to take my vacations in your beautiful coastal towns and spend a fair amount of money in condo rentals,…

I’m a proud native of Pitt County, born at the old Pitt Memorial Hospital in 1967. Tonight, however, I’m angry that a town and community I love would be host to and party to such a disgusting and vile display of bigotry, racism and hatred peddled by the Liar-in-Chief.

He…

I am saddened to hear that my hometown has attracted national attention for hosting a rally for the re-election of the president and vice-president.

As a former student at East Carolina University, I’m shocked that the university’s chancellor and board of trustees would sanction an…

Mr. President, quit destroying the things we took for granted over the Democrat Obama-Biden years. You are making us go to work and get better paying jobs. I was used to my 401K getting a modest single digit growth prior to you coming into office. Now I have to put up with double digits.…

I watched a brief video clip of yesterday's rally with tears streaming down my face. I respect anyone's right to support the politician most in line with their own philosophy, but I cannot bear to see people being led into a frenzy of ugly, demeaning, and yes, dangerous group think about people…

I was a Republican for 40 years. I’m still very proud my first vote was for Ronald Reagan. I answered the call to public service and spent most of the last 20 years abroad as a law enforcement officer and diplomat.

I witnessed, first hand, how this president created chaos and uncertainty in…

I am deeply saddened to see the current horrible news about what is taking place on our southern border. Although I do not condone illegal immigration, I am outraged how our government is subjecting human beings to deplorable conditions while incarcerated. These immigrants, documented or not,…

Hey, where’d Russia go?

Isn’t it just impressive how the illiberal media Democrat machine are more in lock step than synchronized swimmers?

The good news is it’s like a failure parade: floating along waving with band music in front of the masses and abruptly coming to an end.…

I am new to traveling nurses. I recently opened my home to a traveling nurse. After only a short time, this nurse, who is very pleasant and passionate about her work, has shared very disturbing news. She has found some nurses at Vidant rude, dismissive and very judgmental without even knowing…

Welcome to Greenville — a growing city with an extraordinarily diverse population of citizens, many of whom came here as immigrants. It’s good for you to know that institutions like Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University have attracted such gifted persons and their families.…
