The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released its finalized brackets for its postseason football playoffs Saturday afternoon. Four teams, Ayden-Grifton, South Central, J.H. Rose and D.H. Conley will all begin preparations for their first round games Friday. Meanwhile North Pitt, Farmville Central and Greene Central will look toward next season. All first round games will take place on Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the higher seed.

2-A

Ayden-Grifton (8-2, 4-2), coming off a big senior night rivalry win over Kinston Friday night officially made it 19 consecutive years in the postseason. The Chargers earned the 11th seed in the 2-A East bracket. A-G will travel to face sixth-seeded SouthWest Onslow.

3-A

Rivals J.H. Rose (6-5, 4-2) and D.H. Conley (8-3, 6-0) will meet in a first round postseason matchup for the second time in the fall sports season. The Vikings and Rampants also played in the 3-AA soccer playoffs.

This time it will be 13-seed JHR who will travel the short distance to take on its fourth-seeded rivals in 3-AA East play.

4-A

After a very up and down season South Central (5-6, 2-4) nabbed a spot in the 4-A East bracket. The Falcons will travel to take on sixth-seeded Scotland.

CROSS COUNTRY

Conley boys take sixth, girls 12th at state meet

The D.H. Conley boys cross country team had another strong showing to round out the season, placing sixth out of 24 teams with 167 points.

Leading the way for the boys were Peyton Walters (16th, 16:28), Nathan Geyer (21st, 16:31) and Seth McKinney (35th, 16:45). 195 runners competed in the boys meet.

The Conley girls finished 18th of 19 teams with 501 points. 158 runners ran in the girls race.

Annika Stokes posted a personal best on the day, finishing 94th with a time of 21:12.
