Greene Central junior striker Alan Rubio has had an electric start to the season. In just eight games with the Rams Rubio has totaled 17 goals, and three assists. Typically a quiet leader, instead of vocally encouraging his team Rubio enjoys letting his stellar form on the pitch show just how important he is to his team. Preps beat writer Jake Keator spoke with Rubio following GC's 10-1 win over Farmville Central Wednesday night.

Q: Alan who is your favorite professional soccer player and why?

A: "My favorite player is Neymar. He is really good with dribbling the ball, and I try to model my game and my dribbles after him. I really like the way he moves with the ball."

Q: You're extremely quick on the field. Have you worked on improving your speed?

A: "I have. Mostly I just run. The more I run the faster I get. Everyday right after practice I go out and run some more."

Q: You've been on a scoring streak, but so have your teammates. What is it like when you see them finding the back of the net as well?

A: "It always feels good to score a hat trick, and it's exciting to see my teammates out there scoring as well."

Q: You talked about your love of the dribble move, how have you worked to improve that aspect of your game?

A: "Yea I work on those as well. A lot of it is just repetition, practicing to make sure you get the move down and that it's smooth so you an use it in the game."

Q: What has it been like being on the hot streak early in the season?

A: "It feels great. We're just hoping it keeps going when we get into playing the conference."

Q: What advice would you give to a younger athlete who wants to become a dominant striker?

A: "I'd tell them to just keep practicing. Practice every day on your skills and you speed and strength. It's the only way you get better."
