Ayden-Grifton senior Mason Ross wrapped up a successful career for the Chargers this season. As a state qualifier in wrestling and the A-G everyday shortstop in baseball, Ross committed to continue his baseball career at Methodist University last Thursday. Preps beat writer Jake Keator spoke with Ross about his career and his time as a Charger.

Q: You officially signed your letter of intent before the season. How big was that in allowing you to focus solely on baseball?

A: “It took the pressure off a lot just knowing I could focus on the game. I didn’t have to worry about the recruiting process and could just focus on practice.”

Q: You were a three-sport athlete (baseball, wrestling, soccer). What is the biggest challenge that comes with playing the unique sports?

A: “Probably just maintaining your school work and having a social life outside of school and all of the practices.”

Q: You’ve been a part of a lot of success with Ayden-Grifton. When you look back on your time what will be some of the moments that stand out?

A: “Probably heading to the state championships in wrestling and our playoff runs in baseball.”

Q: What has it been like working with (baseball) coach (Corey) Skinner?

A: “He always taught us to have a strong work ethic, and always pushed us to be become better players and people everyday.”
