Brook Valley Country Club will once again play host to the GPRO Tour’s Greenville Open, with tournament action set to be played Monday through Wednesday with a pro-am event scheduled for Sunday.
The tournament will play over 54 holes with the winner receiving a paid entry into the PGA’s Tour Qualifying School and a first-place prize of $10,000.
The pro-am pairs one professional player with a local team of four golfers. Pro-am entry fees will benefit the Harold Varner III Foundation. Varner, now a regular on the PGA Tour, is a former player at East Carolina.
Varner’s foundation aims to give less fortunate kids better access and increased opportunities in the sport.
Sponsorships also are available and include entries into the pro-am. They also include publicity at the club and in the publications of the tour. Anyone interested in purchasing a sponsorship may do so by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by contacting the Brook Valley golf shop at 252-751-1965.
Available sponsorships are $5,000 (includes three teams); $2,500 (two teams) and $1,500 (two teams). Individual team entries are $400.
Varner, 28, was named as the top sleeper pick on PGA.com to win this week’s John Deere Open. That comes on the heels of his being in contention at the PGA Championship before a final-day score of 81 put him out of the running and in 36th place. He has eight finishes in the top 25 and is the tour’s 38th-best driver with an average of 302.3 yards.
