Jake Agnos and East Carolina baseball began their weekend series at Maryland in dominating fashion with a 9-0 victory on Friday night.

Agnos (3-1) pitched seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, no walks, two hit batsmen and six hits allowed for his second straight superb outing on a Friday.

Jake Washer provided the big swing for the Pirates (13-6) with a three-run home run during the visitors’ five-run third inning. Spencer Brickhouse hit a two-run homer later in the game.

Bryant Packard finished 4-for-5 with two doubles against the Terrapins (10-6).

Alec Burleson hit sacrifice flies in the first and third frames before Washer’s big blast.

Softball shutout

Whitney Sanford pitched East Carolina softball to a complete-game shutout for the Pirates to win 3-0 over Northeast Conference preseason favorite Sacred Heart on a windy Friday afternoon at the George Mason Softball Complex.

Sanford (5-4) tossed 99 pitches for ECU (15-10), scattering seven hits and striking out four batters while issuing one walk.
