East Carolina and Tulsa occupy two of the top five spots in the American Athletic Conference women’s basketball standings heading into their matchup today in Minges Coliseum.

The game will provide a solid opportunity for ECU (10-5, 1-1) to record a quality win and to add to its 8-1 home record. The Pirates recorded their first league victory of the season on Wednesday night when they beat Wichita State 78-56, shaking off 25 turnovers thanks to a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint and 23-2 mark in fast break points.

Tulsa (8-7, 2-0) is on a three-game winning streak. It beat Wichita State 63-49 and followed with a 46-39 victory over Memphis on Wednesday. The Golden Hurricane, which went 20-for-25 from the free throw line versus Memphis, also got a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds from Desiree Lewis.

The Hurricane is 1-5 in road games this season.

Lashonda Monk leads the AAC in steals with 56 and also is second on the Pirates in scoring at 12.8 points per game. She was 8-for-17 shooting from the field versus the Shockers, scoring 23 points in 23 minutes. Fellow guard Alex Frazier, a senior, had a career-high 17 points.
