A Greenville man charged with driving while impaired passed out in his car, according to Pitt County court records.

James Henry Smith Jr., 36, of 3368 Frontgate Drive, Apt.7, was stopped at 6 a.m. on U.S. 264 by the State Highway Patrol.

He was observed crossing the center line and when the trooper approached Smith's vehicle, Smith told him he had been drinking liquor.

At some point during the stop, Smith passed out. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and his blood alcohol level was 0.12.

Eleven other people were charged with driving while impaired, according to court records and law enforcement reports available between Aug. 11 and Aug. 18. In other cases, court documents indicate:

  • Demetrius Alston, 27, of 49 Clubway Drive, Greenville, was stopped at 2:48 a.m. on Aug.16 near N.C. 11 and Snow Hill Road by the Ayden Police Department. He was driving 89 in a 60 mph zone. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
  • Derrick Lee Anderson, 30, of 3275 Beaver Lodge Drive, Greenville, was stopped at 1:54 a.m. on Aug.18 near N.C. 11 and Fire Tower Road by the Winterville Police Department. His blood alcohol level was 0.20.
  • Marquise Isiah Allston-Brown,30, of 1119 N. Queen St., Kinston, was stopped at 3:50 a.m. on Aug. 17 near N.C. 11 and Reedy Branch Road. He had an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.08.
  • Christian Michael Hardison, 28, of 1082 McCaskey Road, Williamston, was stopped at 1:14 a.m. on Aug. 17 near U.S. 264 Alternate by the State Highway Patrol. He had slurred speech. The location of the stop was not available. His blood alcohol level also was not available
  • Dareus Montez Hardy, 40, of 5227 Whichard Road, Greenville, was stopped at 11:08 a.m. on Aug. 16 near Old River Road and River View Road by the State Highway Patrol. He refused a breathalyzer. His blood alcohol level was not available.
  • Francisco Javier Garcia-Labra, 28, of 3111 Mobley's Bridge Road,Grimesland, was stopped at 2:15 a.m. on Aug.18 near Brownlea Drive by the State Highway Patrol. He had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.18.
  • Devin Lashawn Moragne, 21, of 3780 Bostic Drive, Greenville, was stopped at 11:53 p.m. on Aug. 16 near Old Creek Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had an odor of alcohol on his breath and red, glassy eyes. His blood alcohol level was 0.11.
  • Tianna Monique Ricketts, 21, of 3616 Lena Lane, Greenville, was stopped at 11:10 a.m. on Aug. 15 near Dickinson Avenue Extension and Dansey Road by the Greenville Police Department. She struggled to stay awake while sitting and had slurred speech and red, glassy eyes. Her blood alcohol level was 0.14.
  • Desmond Monte Spencer, 38, of 386 Northwest Acres Drive, Greenville, was stopped at 10 p.m. on Aug. 16 near N.C. 33 by the State Highway Patrol. He had an odor of alcohol on his breath, was observed swaying and refused a breathalyzer. His blood alcohol level was not available.
  • Erika Brooks Stilley,23, of 378 Old Snow Hill Road, Ayden, was stopped at 4:10 a.m. on Aug. 18 near N.C. 11 and N.C. 903 by the Winterville Police Department. She crossed the center lane several times and had a broken passenger side headlight. The officer also found 1.8 grams of marijuana in a baggie along with a metal grinder and a makeshift smoking piece. She had red, glassy eyes and her blood alcohol level of 0.09.
  • Caroline Nicole Vasquez, 27, of 6262 Brassie Drive, Greenville, was stopped at 4:47 a.m. on Aug. 18 near N.C. 11 and Reedy Branch Road by the Winterville Police Department. She had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on her breath. Her blood alcohol level was 0.11.
