ROCKY MOUNT — Four people from Florida were killed in the crash of a Piper aircraft in rainy weather Friday in Nash County northwest of Rocky Mount, authorities said.

Gregory Boll, 57, Evva Leigh Boll, 48, Felix Laquidara, 53, and Roberta Laquidara, 52, all were of Naples, State Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Knox said on Saturday afternoon.

Knox said he cannot confirm which of the four was the pilot, but he said the plane was en route from Naples to Easton/Newnam Field in the Maryland part of the Delmarva Peninsula. Knox said two dogs also on board the plane died as a result of the crash.

Knox said the last reported radar contact with the plane was in the area of N.C. 43 and Harrison Road.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office, in an email at 2:43 p.m. on Friday, said their deputies and other emergency agencies were responding to reports of a possible downed aircraft in the Aventon area.

Partial pieces of an aircraft wing were found off Harrison and a fuselage was located off Taylor’s Store Road.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration.

NSTB spokesman Terry Williams told the Telegram the NTSB in approximately seven to 10 days is going to issue a preliminary report with some of the early information obtained about the crash, but no determination as to the cause.

Williams said the latter is going to come later and said the probe is going to take approximately a year and a half to complete.

An NTSB investigator arrived at the scene at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday and returned to the scene on Saturday.

Williams said the investigator is documenting the scene and is going to conduct an initial review of the aircraft, including the engine.

Williams said the aircraft is going to be moved to a secure location for further examination.

And Williams said the NTSB is going to look at the aircraft’s maintenance history, the pilot’s records and the weather conditions at the time of the crash.
