Man injured after crashing car into tree

A Farmville man suffered evident injuries after he ran off the road to the left and struck a tree, according to a State Highway Patrol report.

The crash took place at 11:37 p.m. on Jan. 10 at the intersection of Lynch Street and N.C. 222 in Fountain 

Gregory Jerome Dixon was traveling west on N.C. 222 in his 2004 Infinity passenger car when he attempted to make a right turn onto Lynch Street and ran off the road to the left and struck a tree.    

Dixon was traveling 30 mph at the time of impact. The speed limit for that stretch of road is 35 mph.

Dixon was transported to Vidant Medical Center.  

His car sustained $15,000 in damages.

He also was charged with driving while impaired and driving while license revoked.  

The wreck is among 10 other crashes that the State Highway Patrol investigated recently in Pitt County, according to reports available between Dec. 31 and Jan.6 Wrecks involving deer and other animals are not included.
