Officers from the Greenville Police Department assisted Greenville Fire-Rescue in responding to a dumpster fire outside a Harris Teeter store on Monday night, according to a report from the GPD. 

The incident took place between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. at the Harris Teeter located at 1400 Charles Blvd.

GPD Public Information Officer Kristen Hunter said an officer noticed an individual standing near the fire. The man admitted to setting the dumpster fire to stay warm.

Hunter said Harris Teeter has declined to pursue charges against the individual at this time.

Break-ins, thefts

■ 210 S.W. Greenville Blvd., 1:20 p.m. Jan. 9: U.S. battery pack valued at $5.88 stolen from Walmart and recovered; case closed/cleared by citation.

■ 200 block South Library Street, 9 a.m. Jan 4-4 p.m. Jan. 7: felony larceny reported at residence; stolen items not listed; investigation ongoing.

■ 500 block Southeast Greenville Boulevard, 9 a.m.-noon Jan. 8: ID, Social Security card and Kate Spade wallet valued at $150 stolen from woman; investigation ongoing.

■ 4400 block Surrey Meadows Drive, 1:30 p.m. Jan. 5-1:30 p.m. Jan. 6: one white Yeti cooler valued at $315 stolen from home; case inactive.

Assaults

■ 900 block Ellery Drive, noon-1 p.m. Jan. 9: 21-year-old man assaulted at home by ex-girlfriend; extent of injuries not reported; case inactive.

Property Damage

■ 600 block Gooden Place, 9:29 a.m. Jan. 9: four windows of home shattered by parent; $1,000 in damages reported; case closed/cleared.

■ 2200 block University Suites Drive, 8 p.m. Jan. 8-6:30 a.m. Jan. 9: 2007 black Volkswagon Jetta sustained $200 in damages from ex-boyfriend; case inactive.

■ 3100 block Chesswood Lane, 7 p.m. Jan. 7-5:15 p.m. Jan. 8: a window sustained $150 in damages and six pine trees sustained $600 in damages; investigation ongoing.
