A Greenville man and another male passenger were left with possible injuries after the driver failed to stop for a stop sign, ran off the road and crashed into a ditch, according to a State Highway Patrol report.

The crash took place at 11:15 p.m. on Oct. 11 on N.C. 30 and Briery Swamp Road near Greenville, according to a weekly review of crashes investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Yemi Hernandez Torres of Greenville was traveling west on Briery Swamp Road in his 2008 Ford passenger car when he ran a stop sign and continued straight before running off the road and crashing into a ditch.

Torres’ truck was traveling at 10 mph at the time of the crash, according to the Highway Patrol. The speed limit for that section of road is 55 mph.

Neither Torres or his passenger required any medical attention and EMS did not respond to the scene.

His car sustained $4,000 in damages.

Gilliam was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign.

The wreck is among 13 other crashes that the State Highway Patrol investigated recently in Pitt County, according to reports available between Oct. 8 and Oct. 15. Wrecks involving deer and other animals are not included.
